Applying for Unemployment!

I became unemployed on June 30th.  I am a resident of Virginia but had to apply for unemployment in Maryland because the company I worked for is based in Maryland.

During the application process, I got very little feedback but received the customary confirmation emails indicating all was valid.  After my application was complete and everything was approved, I didn’t hear anything further.  When I logged into the portal, I still could not submit a weekly unemployment claim and didn’t understand what was going on.

I made numerous phone calls and finally got through to a representative. I was surprised to find out that my application was flagged as fraudulent and is now under investigation. She said that I would have to submit a case request and I would get help through them.  All I would have to do is resubmit my driver’s license and Birth Certificate.  She did that for me and gave me a case number.  I have heard nothing since, and I never got an Action Item in the portal to submit the documents.  The confirmation email for the case said it would take 5 to 10 days before I would be notified.

Two phone numbers were provided to get help.  Calls on each number seem to be caught in a loop when the only valid option is to call the other number.  You find these phone numbers on Maryland’s unemployment website and in the confirmation email.  When you call, you listen to an automated voice that goes on and on and on without pausing for several minutes explaining all options and requirements - your mind goes numb and you miss some of the options.
